The Monterey Jazz Festival is the longest, continuously running jazz festival in the world (b. 1958). It is world-renowned for its artistic excellence, sophisticated informality and longstanding mission to create and support year-round jazz education and performance programs. This year’s lineup reflects Monterey’s “traditional-untraditionalist” attitude and jazz-with-a-purpose exuberance. Featuring leading critically acclaimed, Grammy-winning jazz artists, the band consists of saxophonist, bandleader and composer Ravi Coltrane, Nicholas Payton on trumpet and Raul Midón on guitar. Anchoring the tour is a remarkable trio featuring Joe Sanders on bass, Gregory Hutchinson on drums and MJF On Tour musical director Gerald Clayton. Embracing the past, present and future of jazz, the Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour will perform an assortment of classic jazz repertoire and original compositions by band members.
